Vanilla Curing Process Uganda
- Killing or blanching — pods briefly in hot water at 65°C to stop biological processes
- Sweating — pods wrapped in blankets and stored in closed boxes for several days for enzyme development
- Drying — pods spread on mats in sun for 2 to 3 hours daily over several weeks
- Conditioning — final storage in closed boxes for 2 to 3 months to develop full flavour

- Green beans farm gate: UGX 20,000 — 50,000 per kg — varies significantly by season
- Cured vanilla: USD 150 — 300 per kg on international market
- Premium certified organic cured vanilla: USD 300 — 600 per kg
Vanilla Farm Economics
At 50 vanilla vines per acre producing 3 to 5 kg green beans each = 150 to 250 kg green beans per acre per year = 25 to 42 kg cured vanilla = USD 3,750 to 12,600 revenue per acre per year at current prices — making vanilla one of Uganda's highest-value crops per unit of land.
