How to Get an Airtel Money Quick Loan in Uganda (2026)

๐Ÿ“ Ugandaโœ๏ธ Kennedy Nyabwala๐Ÿ•’ 5 min read

Airtel Money Quick Loan lets Airtel users in Uganda borrow instantly from their mobile money wallet โ€” no collateral, no paperwork, no bank visit. It's designed to top you up when your wallet is short for sending money, paying a merchant, settling a bill or buying airtime and data. Here's exactly how to opt in, apply, check your limit and repay.

How to apply for an Airtel Money Quick Loan

  1. Dial *185# and press send.
  2. Select option 7, Financial Services.
  3. Choose option 10, Loans (shortcut: dial *185*7*10#).
  4. Select option 1, Quick Loan.
  5. Enter your Airtel Money PIN.
  6. Choose "Opt-in" and accept the terms and conditions.

Once opted in, you can use the Quick Loan to send money, pay merchants, pay bills, or buy airtime and data straight from your Airtel Money account.

How to check your loan limit

Dial *185# โ†’ option 7 (Financial Services) โ†’ option 10 (Loans) โ†’ option 1 (Quick Loan) โ†’ enter your PIN โ†’ select Check limit. Your available Quick Loan limit appears on screen.

Fees and repayment

Airtel charges a 2% application fee on the amount borrowed, plus 1% of the outstanding amount each day for up to 15 days. There are no separate late fees โ€” but you cannot take another loan until you have repaid what's due. Repaying early saves you money, because the daily 1% stops once the loan is cleared. To repay: dial *185# โ†’ Financial Services โ†’ Loans โ†’ Quick Loan โ†’ Repay Loan, and follow the prompts (repayment is also automatic from your wallet balance).

โš ๏ธ 1% per day adds up fast. A 15-day loan can cost roughly 2% + up to 15% in daily charges โ€” cheap-sounding per day, but very expensive as an annual rate. Quick Loans are best for genuine short-term gaps you can clear in a few days, not for ongoing borrowing.

How to increase your Quick Loan limit

Need more than a quick top-up? Mobile loans are small and short-term by design. For meaningful credit โ€” business capital, school fees, asset finance โ€” from a SACCO or microfinance lender, you need a credit profile that proves your income. Basket's BwalaPay builds that profile from your real earning and payment behaviour and connects you to licensed lenders. Basket itself does not lend. See how BwalaPay works โ†’

๐Ÿ’ฌ Want to qualify for bigger, fairer credit?

BwalaPay turns your income and payment history into a verified credit profile, so you can access regulated SACCO and microfinance loans โ€” not just small mobile top-ups.
